Blog experience

So far my experiment with a blog in my 21st C. Techniques class has not been super. I get the assigned person to write most of the time, but even after repeated requests, the rest of the class is not responding. I'm open to suggestions.

Tom,
What some people have done with blogs it's that students HAVE to write at least five (or ten...depending on how many times you post) comments to the posts. Let's say you have a post each week, so students can't do two comments the same week, and they can't write two comments in two weeks either. In that way you won't have students writing 5 comments the last 5 weeks of classes.
Some professors ask for 5 good comments and 5 constructive comments.
I hope this helps.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Jaime.

I required my students to post weekly and respond to at least one posting. Also, I included in my syllabus my criteria in grading the blog postings. In class I also remind them to follow requirements especially if I noticed that some of them are not following the requirements. As of now all of them are posting and there are very few who sometimes forget to respond to other postings. I keep reminding them every week.

I wonder how effective it is to be so restrictive with requiring students to be involved? Are we encouraging the use of a new technology, or giving them yet another requirement? I'm not sure.
